Cameron's Tanka

It’s a violent storm
The air smells of the lost sons
Mother without child
World without daughter and son
But always remember them

  1. This was very powerful and the way i interpreted it was about family how you can never live without your family well and you always need people there to support you.

  2. The poem is fire! It made me kind of adventurous like I was on a boat and a hurricane was happening then it calmed down. It made me realize what you were trying to convey in the poem.

  3. I like how your poem is about family and how, without it you cannot live. It shows the importance of family to you and how you always think of them.

  4. I think this poem is very deep and shows a lot of reality about what is happening in Chicago. Especially when you talk about things like the air smells of the loss of sons because in certain parts of Chicago when you go you can almost feel how tough the neighborhood is and your whole body goes on high alert.

  6. Your poem is really powerful and it seems to relate to violence (specifically violence in Chicago) and it sort of represents what families must go through to keep their children alive and the experiences they have when they cannot do so.

  7. This poem was very well written and really powerful, I could create an image in my mind based on the language you used. I really liked how to compared this to a violent storm, it gave me a better idea about what you were trying to convey, great job!

  8. This poem had me thinking about Chicago, and the violence that claim's the children of mothers. The air smells of the lost sons. This reminds me of the idea in The Alchemist that everything is carried on the wind. The memory of our experiences, and our lives rides the wind, and yes even the pain that comes when those loved ones are with us no longer. I'd be interested to learn what your intention was in creating this poem, and to see the distance between my interpretation and yours.
